Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz Receives Bingöl Delegation at the Presidential Complex
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz received Bingöl Mayor Erdal Arıkan, Bingöl University Rector Prof. Dr. Erdal Çelik, and their accompanying delegation at the Presidential Complex. The meeting provided an opportunity for a high-level evaluation of ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing Bingöl’s resilience against disasters and strengthening its urban infrastructure.
Project teams from Bingöl Municipality and Bingöl University also participated in the meeting. Discussions focused on the Earthquake Early Warning System, Earthquake Monitoring Center, and Smart City Projects being implemented in cooperation with the Fırat Development Agency. The strategic importance of these initiatives was emphasized, particularly given Bingöl’s location in a region with significant seismic risk. Participants highlighted the shared goal of developing sustainable, technology-driven solutions based on scientific data.
As part of the program, Associate Professor Fatma Esen and Assistant Professor Kenan Akbayram, members of the project team, delivered a comprehensive presentation to Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz. The presentation provided detailed information on the current stages of the projects, established technical infrastructure, sensor networks, data collection and analysis mechanisms, institutional coordination structures, and implementation processes. Information was also shared regarding future plans, including the expansion of early warning systems, strengthening data centers, and integrating additional smart city components.
The meeting further examined the contributions of digital transformation–based smart city applications to Bingöl’s sustainable development, alongside efforts to reduce disaster risks and enhance urban safety. Particular attention was given to the importance of the multi-stakeholder cooperation model involving local governments, universities, and development agencies in improving disaster management capacity and preparing cities for future challenges. Participants exchanged views on strengthening inter-institutional coordination, promoting data sharing, and expanding evidence-based decision-making processes.
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz stated that the ongoing initiatives have the potential to serve as exemplary models not only at the local level but also nationally. He emphasized the importance of supporting science- and technology-based projects and expressed his satisfaction with the progress made toward Bingöl’s earthquake resilience and smart city vision. Yılmaz also thanked all institutions and stakeholders contributing to the projects.
