The application made by our University to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office for 'Bingöl Honey' geographical indication was accepted on October 7, 2022. The relevant institution registered 'Bingöl Honey' as a geographically indicated product at the national level on October 7, 2022. Then, an application was made to the European Union within the scope of the 'International Geographical Indication Mobilization' to promote this product internationally. Consequently, Bingöl Honey has received a geographical indication (GI) registration from the European Union and become the first honey from our region to receive a geographical indication registration from the European Union.
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Çapak, stated that he welcomed the registration of Bingöl Honey by the European Union with great pleasure and said, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our Vice President, Dr. Cevdet Yılmaz, President of the Council of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, Bingöl Deputies Mr. Feyzi Berdibek and Zeki Korkutata and former deputies, governor of Bingöl Mr. Ahmet Hamdi Usta, Mayor of Bingöl Mr. Erdal Arıkan, Bingöl Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Burhan Bahadır, President of Bingöl Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mr. Kadir Çintay, Bingöl Provincial Beekeepers Association and everyone who contributed.
