Traditional Sports Games on Campus Event Held at Bingöl University
Bingöl University organized a meaningful event aimed at preserving cultural heritage and introducing young people to traditional sports. The "Traditional Sports Games on Campus" event, organized by the Department of Health, Culture and Sports within the framework of the University's "Sports-Friendly Campus" vision, was held with the enthusiastic participation of students and staff.
The event, which began at 12:30 p.m. behind the Central Cafeteria, brought together participants eager to experience traditional Turkish sports. Students enthusiastically competed in various disciplines representing Türkiye's rich sporting heritage, including javelin throwing (cirit), shot put, and traditional archery. The event created a vibrant atmosphere across the campus and attracted significant interest as an important initiative to preserve and pass on the country's traditional sports culture to younger generations.
The event was attended by the Rector of Bingöl University, Prof. Dr. Erdal Çelik, and the Secretary General, Prof. Dr. Veysel Turan. During the program, Rector Çelik closely interacted with students, took part in the throwing activities, and wished all competitors success. In his remarks, he emphasized that sport is not only a physical activity but also an important means of strengthening social solidarity, discipline, and cultural identity. He noted that introducing university students to traditional sports contributes significantly to preserving and promoting national values. He also stated that Bingöl University will continue to develop projects that encourage sports participation and foster a vibrant sporting culture on campus.
Throughout the event, students not only experienced the excitement of competition but also had the opportunity to learn about the historical background and cultural significance of traditional Turkish sports. The competitions continued throughout the day in an atmosphere of friendship, sportsmanship, and enthusiastic support from spectators.
At the end of the program, awards were presented to the top-performing participants. Students expressed their satisfaction with the event and voiced their hope that similar sporting activities would continue in the future.
Bingöl University remains committed to promoting an active and healthy campus life while preserving and celebrating Türkiye's rich cultural heritage through sports.
