Our university added another new project to the environmental initiatives it carries out with the aim of increasing environmental awareness, raising nature-sensitive individuals, and making the campus area more livable. In this context, the sapling planting event, organized in line with the "Green Campus - Climate-Friendly University" vision, was held with great participation. With the number of saplings planted during 2025 reaching 2,501, another important threshold in the university's sustainability goals has been surpassed.
At the event held in different parts of the campus; our University Rector Prof. Dr. Erdal Çelik, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Abdulhakim Koçin, and Secretary General Prof. Dr. Veysel Turan personally participated and planted saplings. The event, also supported by academic and administrative staff and students, served as a concrete indicator that environmental sensitivity has become an institutional culture.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Erdal Çelik stated that planting saplings is not merely an environmental activity but one of the most valuable legacies to leave for future generations, saying:
"As Bingöl University, we value creating a campus texture in harmony with nature, increasing sustainable green spaces, and being an exemplary university in the fight against climate change. Our 'Climate-Friendly Campus' vision involves not just a slogan-level approach, but a project-based approach supported by concrete steps. Every sapling we plant today will breathe life into the future; it will contribute to the quality of life of our students, our staff, and our city."
Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Abdulhakim Koçin expressed that the university's environmental policies are shaped by sustainability principles and emphasized that work especially on reducing the carbon footprint, increasing green space density on campus, and spreading environmental awareness within the university will continue to increase.
Secretary General Prof. Dr. Veysel Turan also noted that the campus environment directly affects students' academic achievements and social lives, and stated that efforts to create a greener, cleaner, and more orderly university environment will continue.
Within the scope of the event, participants from different faculties and units planted saplings in their own names and on behalf of their units, contributing to environmental awareness. It is aimed that the maintenance processes of the saplings will be regularly monitored and that they will provide significant contributions to the campus's ecological diversity in the coming years.
Through the sapling planting campaigns, recycling efforts, zero-waste activities, and nature-based campus projects it carries out, Bingöl University continues to take determined steps towards being a leading institution not only in the field of education but also in the area of environmental responsibility and sustainability.
